Long Planning Engineer - Remote role at West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd.
Join the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.
Reporting to the Senior Strategic Planning Lead, the successful candidate will mostly work remotely on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster with occasional travels to site as needed. The role is responsible for generating long‑term planning work packages for the engineering team to support safe development of the mine to achieve and surpass production targets while adding value to the Red Lake Madsen mine.
TheFocus Of This Role Will Include
- Generate the annual Reserves and Resource estimation, annual MRMR reporting, annual cut‑off grade guidance, and strategic planning of LOM and LoAP.
- Complete trade‑off and cost analysis studies for varying mining methods, infrastructure options, mining sequence, and capital spend timelines.
- Collaborate with Geology to plan definition infill drilling programs based on geological confidence and mining sequence depletion strategy to support a steady production profile for the Life of Mine Plan.
- Maintain the essential link between the strategic planning horizon and the short‑term planning horizon to promote operational budget execution and compliance with plan.
- Generate and maintain the onsite reconciliation process.
- Develop underground mine infrastructure design and support their timely construction.
- Generate and update all needed Planning Standard Procedures within the strategic planning of the engineering department.
- Support the mid‑range designs for both CAPEX and OPEX for upcoming mining blocks through detailed conceptual approvals of developments and stopes.
- Generate the annual Business Plan for the mine.
- Laise with Geology and Geotech to apply all design criteria and approved design parameters to the LOM and mid‑range designs.
- Foster strong stakeholder engagement across site departments—including Geology, Geotechnical, Ventilation, Mine Operation, Processing, and Maintenance—to ensure long‑term and mid‑range designs are operationally feasible to develop.

B.Sc. Mining Engineering or equivalent is essential, and a P.Eng. qualification is a must or the ability to gain P.Eng. - Experience in long‑term, medium‑term, and short‑term mine planning, as well as exposure to operational roles such as production coordinator, mine dispatcher, and crew supervision, is desirable.
- Self‑starter with strong collaboration skills and effective presentation skills.
- Ability to maintain strong communication between engineering and other department heads.
- 6‑8 years of experience with significant conventional and mechanized underground mining methods, including paste fills, consolidated rock fill, and unconsolidated rock fill.
- Advanced competence in the use of Deswik mine planning software to generate optimized mine designs and schedules.
- Strong knowledge of exploration methods and resource estimation.
- Smart problem‑solving techniques and 3D visualization skills are essential.
