Location and Travel

This is a remote position; however, preference will be given to candidates located in Austin, TX;
Phoenix, AZ;
Atlanta, GA;
Reno, NV;
Grand Rapids, MI; or Las Vegas, NV.

This position may require occasional travel to the locations listed above for site visits, project meetings, and team collaboration.

The Fire and Plumbing Designer (F & P Designer) will be responsible for the design and coordination of fire protection and plumbing systems for data center and other mission‑critical projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Revit‑based design workflows and experience supporting all phases of design and construction.

• Develop detailed designs and construction documents for fire protection and plumbing systems, including equipment layouts, piping, and riser diagrams.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and equipment sizing in compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, IBC, UPC, etc.).
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams to ensure coordinated, integrated system designs.
• Assist with design reviews, submittal evaluations, and field coordination during construction.
• Participate in project meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure design intent is maintained throughout all project phases.
• Support system evaluations, code analysis, and technical documentation for permitting and construction.
• Maintain drawing accuracy and organization using Revit, ensuring BIM standards are followed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and templates within the MEI design environment.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field.
• 5+ years of experience in plumbing and/or fire protection design, preferably within data centers or mission‑critical facilities.
• EIT certification preferred but not required.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NFPA, ASPE, IBC, IMC, UPC).
• Proficiency in Revit is required; experience with AutoCAD and BIM coordination tools is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a collaborative approach to problem‑solving.
• Experience coordinating with architects, clients, and contractors during design and construction phases.
