Overview
Substation Project Development, Senior Engineer 1 at Southern California Edison (SCE). This role involves sponsoring substation utility projects and leading technical and engineering efforts such as developing scope, schedule and costs, while identifying synergies and opportunities for cross-cutting projects to maximize value. You will coordinate and perform technical analyses for distribution, subtransmission, and transmission level substation projects, driving licensing, construction streamlining, and optimization of SCE resources.

Responsibilities- Oversee engineers performing diagnostics, monitoring, and inspecting equipment; review grid technologies; build cross-functional knowledge transfer across related work groups.
- Lead the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and other documentation to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless development, integration, and implementation of future technologies and asset performance management strategies.
- Assist in a variety of engineering and business initiatives and grid strategies, including development of innovative procedures and design recommendations.
- Provide support for new equipment installation and startup, then lead handover processes to the ramp and sustaining phases.
- Lead junior engineers in investigating threats on the distribution system infrastructure based on observations and findings.
- Gather and correlate basic data using engineering studies and procedures, including routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems.
- Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for engineering team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Protect the company’s assets and properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other sensitive information with high standards of conduct and integrity.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
- Seven or more years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
- Valid Class C Driver's License.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Experience delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating with regional transmission organizations (e.g., CAISO) and regulatory agencies (e.g., FERC, NERC).
- Experience supporting testimony for regulatory proceedings and environmental licensing.
- Engineering experience related to power system modeling and analyses on the SCE grid (4 kV to 500 kV).
- Experience in the utility industry with a focus in distribution, subtransmission, and transmission planning, grid interconnection, and design of substations and related facilities.
- Experience in project management, including strategic planning, budgeting, and execution of large-scale projects.
- Hybrid work mode. Typically report to an SCE facility with some remote work;
California residency required unless otherwise noted. Details discussed at interview; work mode can change based on business needs. - Qualified applications with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with local laws.
- Primary work location:
Pomona, CA (PIV1). - Up to 5% travel within the SCE service territory; field work may be required.
- This position may be NERC/CIP impacted; PRA or Background Investigation required before unescorted access and training completed.
