Job Description

Join our Traveling Construction Materials Technician team to embark on new opportunities, develop professionally, and contribute to thrilling projects nationwide. This position involves 100% travel across the “Rocky Mountain” division, including Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington.

In this role you will travel continuously to work on high-profile projects such as transportation infrastructure, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more. It is an opportunity for someone who enjoys traveling, works on diverse high-profile projects, and seeks to advance their construction material testing career.

General Responsibilities

Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor’s representatives, and others regarding site conditions, project requirements, and testing practices. Transport material samples and associated documentation to the laboratory. Compile, prepare, and submit data and observations through written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.

Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas. Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform testing, observation, and inspection according to training and specified procedures.
  • Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submission to the Project Manager.
  • Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
  • Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
  • Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
  • Follow safety rules and practices, including pre‑task planning and reporting safety concerns to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training and related experience.
  • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Required Certification
  • ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
    • Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
    • Concrete Strength Testing Technician
    • Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
    • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
Preferred Certification
  • Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
    • NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing—Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
    • NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical—Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist.
    • ICC certification in one or more of the following categories:
      Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
    • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
    • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in:
      Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
    • Other national, regional, state, and local materials‑related certifications requiring experience and written examination will be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.

This position is classified as a “Remote Only” role. Remote employees work from home or another location without a designated office workspace.
