The Technician Engineer Field provides a route analysis of outside plant telecommunications.

What You’ll Do
  • You will oversee and manage field engineering activities responsible for planning, designing, and obtaining permits for new cable routes
  • You will visit customer sites to gather OSP site survey information, evaluate customer requirements and determine the OSP equipment required
  • You will work as part of a multi‑faced team consisting of engineering, construction, project management, and scheduling personnel, all with a common interest of delivering results to the customer
  • You will coordinate with drafting and/or GIS personnel located in remote offices to produce construction drawings to be used to construct the network
  • You will develop base mapping and provide field engineering services required to prepare permit drawings, OSP construction drawings, and final as‑built drawings in electronic format
  • You will research and incorporate permitting requirements from jurisdictional authorities (i.e., state, county, city, railroads, and others) into the OSP design
  • You will recommend the final route based on the most economical solution and permitting agency’s requirements
  • You will research and evaluate various route options associated with the projects. Research shall include aerial and underground options, existing customer conduit and other third‑party conduit
  • You will engage daily with the customer’s engineering team and project management staff via emails/phone as well as occasional in‑person meetings
  • You will maintain safe working habits and conditions according to regulations and policies
What You’ll Need
  • To be 18 years old or older
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • Valid state driver’s license (cannot be provisional), with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening
  • Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed
  • May be required to work after hours, on weekends, or be on‑call as work is needed
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications
  • 4‑6 years of experience in the OSP Engineering field – experience with aerial and underground construction methods and engineering requirements
  • Experience with cable placement and splicing methods and practices
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours, overtime and weekends as needed
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record
  • Familiarity with permitting requirements for state and local agencies is a plus
  • Understanding of the RUS (Rural Utility Service) units and their meaning process is a plus
Physical & Safety Requirements And The Working Environment
  • Duties will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low
  • The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate
  • Employees may be required to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds in a shift
  • Employees may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme hot or cold temperatures, icy or wet roads, rain, snow or sleet, changes in terrain, urban or rural settings
