Job SummaryThe University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is hiring a Three-Year Term-Limited Intermediate AV Control Programmer to join a diverse team dedicated to design, installation, and systems integration of AV equipment in classrooms, conference rooms, and event spaces across LSA. This position focuses on AV programming (Crestron and API interfaces) to integrate an AV Monitoring platform with LSA’s catalog of spaces.
The salary range is $70,000 – $77,000.
- Assist in onboarding new and existing systems onto the AV System Monitoring Platform (Innomesh); add code to existing programs and load programs.
- Implement proper IP address management, network configuration, and security measures.
- Commission complex integrated AV systems with 20+ core subsystems; prepare automation programming (Crestron-based), install completion, firmware management, configuration, performance verification.
- Delegate routine tasks to AV Technicians and escalate advanced issues to Senior Project Engineers.
- Troubleshoot and break/fix programs as assigned.
- Support complex AV projects across LSA and UM; assist with system design, project leadership and management, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with project engineers to provide insight and feedback on field performance; participate in development and testing of new equipment/systems.
You have a foundation of experience and a variety of skills in AV technology with a focus on coding/programming. You have significant experience working on AV integration and maintenance projects, installations, and equipment upgrades. You understand the principles and procedures of coding/programming AV systems and digital AV technologies. You are collaborative, patient, empathetic, and action‑oriented, with strong communication skills and a dedication to teamwork.
Required Qualifications- Completion of CTI-P201 Crestron programming course or equivalent work experience using SIMPL Windows and Vision Tools Pro‑e.
- Ability to develop complete AV automation packages for touchscreen‑based control systems, adhering to provided standards.
- Experience configuring or programming open‑architecture audio DSPs (Biamp, Xilica, Q‑SYS, etc.).
- Proven ability to configure and troubleshoot digital video and audio distribution technologies (Display Port, Dante, AES
67, HDMI, HDBaseT, AV‑over‑IP). - Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP).
- 2‑5 years of relevant technology experience or equivalent in AV systems integration, support, installation, project management, system design, or video/audio engineering.
- Ability to evaluate and solve technical issues using creative problem‑solving, Tier 2 troubleshooting, and professional AV testing tools.
- Strong communication skills, excellent customer service, and effective teamwork.
- CTS Certification or other relevant AV certifications (Dante, HDBaseT, Netgear, etc.).
- Experience with SIMPL#/SIMPL# Pro or CH5/HTML5 for custom UI and automation development.
- Familiarity with other AV control platforms (Extron, Q‑SYS, AMX) or general software development beyond AV.
- Experience working with AI‑assisted development tools.
- Understanding of higher education learning space design and instructional technologies.
- Experience working on construction sites and following all required safety regulations, OSHA guidelines, and local job site requirements.
This position requires moving and transporting objects such as projectors, screens, monitors, AV racks, and AV podia up to 50 lbs and occasionally navigating a 12‑foot ladder. Additional requirements include overhead installation, travel between buildings, and working in enclosed spaces.
Work ScheduleThe role is 8 hours per day, Monday–Friday, with occasional flexible hours for weekend or evening work. There may be occasional tasks that require time and space to concentrate in the field, and work from home may be appropriate for coding or review tasks.
