This position provides electrical, instrument and analyzer inspection and optimization/repair activities in compliance with applicable national and regional codes, standards and regulations in order to maintain plant on stream time while increasing plant reliability. Maintenance activities must be performed safely and efficiently to high quality standards. The technician must be able to function at a high level in a multi-craft environment.
ADay in the Life
- Use proactive Hazard Recognition techniques to work safely at all times and actively support the plant safety process.
- Follow and know the plant policies and procedures.
- Be available to work overtime and duty weeks.
- Have strong analytical skills to systematically troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and instrumentation including:
- AC and DC motor circuits, up to and including the motor and drive
- Lighting and electrical circuits up to 480 V
- Complex control relay and PLC logic problems
- Control valves and associated component problems
- Complex instrumented control and indicating loops for pressure, flow, temperature, differential pressure, level and volume
- Electrical power distribution systems using the proper tools and safe work practices
- Communication and alarm systems
- Perform routine electrical construction tasks for equipment installation and commissioning
- Calibrate and configure pneumatic and smart electronic instruments
- A High school diploma or equivalent required
- Able to read electrical schematics and diagrams
- Basic computer software and hardware familiarity
- Experienced with Electrical/Instrumentation/Analyzer diagnostic test and measurement tools
- Skilled in basic mathematics including first-level algebra
- Good communication skills
- High commitment to the craft, willing to learn and accept new challenges
- Self-starter and capable of leading formal or informal work groups
- Knowledgeable on safe use of various hand and power tools; ability to perform under adverse conditions such as heavy lifting, cramped working conditions, extremes in weather conditions, confined spaces, elevated heights and noisy areas.
- Successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a strong electro-mechanical aptitude and a willingness to work cooperatively with others in order to solve complex instrumentation, electrical, and process problems, as well as build mutually beneficial work groups.
- Other personal qualities essential for success are a desire to share knowledge and experience, self-motivated, seeking and accepting accountability for individual actions and a desire to achieve superior technical and interpersonal outcomes.
- An associate degree in instrumentation or electrical is preferred.
- 5 years of hands-on electrical and instrumentation maintenance experience in chemical or oil refining.
- NCCER Instrumentation or Electrical certification is preferred.
