Overview

Mas Tec Civil is hiring a Senior Estimator to assist in the growth of the Miami, Florida infrastructure market! Remote position within the state of Florida. This individual should have a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience plus a minimum of 3 years of field experience in Heavy Civil Construction, specifically in roadway work such as earth movement, drainage, clearing & grubbing, grading, roadway bases, channel excavation, retaining walls, water main, and force main.

The candidate must also be knowledgeable in contract delivery methods: design-build, design-bid-build, and Lump Sum, and have contract experience with Florida DOT/turnpike, cities/counties, and airport authorities. This candidate must be self-motivated, willing to collaborate with peers, teach young engineers, and constantly strive to identify problems and solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Understand bid items, basis of estimate, and skill to identify errors and discrepancies in plans, specifications, and solutions.
  • Read plans, specifications, RFPs, RFIs, addendums, and technical special provisions.
  • Create green sheet estimates, activity structures, construction schedules, and risk matrix analyses.
  • Build job budgets for awarded contracts.
  • Develop bid strategy and cost‑saving initiatives.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs within time frames.
  • Independently estimate entire jobs.
  • Review estimating reports: equipment hours, labor productivity rates, key indicators, and equipment balance analyses.
  • Keep updated on Florida DOT standards and specifications.
  • Lead estimating discussions with company executives and review bid submittal packages.
  • Clarify plans and specifications with owners or engineers of record.
  • Invite suppliers and subcontractors to quote scopes of work and analyze pricing.
  • Strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships.
  • Maintain comprehensive unit cost analysis skills.
  • Assist with pre‑bid meetings and bid submittals.
  • Monitor commodity trade prices and construction technologies.
  • Engage in continuous education through conventions and forums.
  • Communicate with field personnel to track and adjust unit costs.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Heavy Civil.
  • Must be located in Florida.
  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management.

  • Knowledge of bridge and roadway construction.
  • Experience with Florida soil (rock/clay), foundations, concrete structures, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signaling, roadway lighting, ITS, and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with design‑build and design‑bid‑build contracts with Florida DOT and Turnpike Enterprises.
  • Teaching and mentoring skills.
