Mechanical Engineering Drafters​/Technologists

Overview

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas. We are searching for multiple Mechanical Designers and Technologists at varying experience levels to join our Mechanical and Electrical Design Department  will utilize skill sets relative to concepts, practices, and procedures of drafting and 3-D modeling in support of our research engineering programs.

These positions are required to be 100% on-site, but options may exist for a hybrid work from office / work from home scenario dependent upon research requirements.

• Collaborate with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support Specialists in need of mechanical design, addressing design, material, component needs, and the resolution of issues
• Create 2D and 3D drawings and solid models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts; also create schematic/bills of material (BOM) documents
• Archive and perform configuration management of all design documentation (Teamcenter)

• Mechanical systems and components
• Layout and design using CAD software
• Ability to create 2D detail drawings for fabrication parts and assemblies
• Ability to create 3D parametric solid models which are fully constrained

• Certification or familiarity with ASME Y14.5
• Microsoft Office and Adobe products
• Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required
