Stantec – Structural Engineer – Water and Wastewater Projects
Join Stantec as a Structural Engineer and help deliver transformational projects that benefit future generations. Work under general supervision and direction on multiple projects, with guidance from a Senior Structural Engineer.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preliminary and detailed structural analysis and design for water and wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs, hydraulic containment facilities, industrial structures, and administrative buildings.
- Design, analyze, and specify primarily reinforced concrete, masonry, and structural steel systems.
- Lead or support an engineering team responsible for the evaluation, selection, specification, and engineering of all structural engineered systems for a project.
- Prepare and revise documentation for structural phases, including conceptual design, detailed design, and construction support.
- Develop designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Use computing technologies to develop 3‑D models of structural systems and provide markups for junior engineers and designers.
- Lead or support project coordination meetings with internal teams and external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Participate in client project requirement meetings and value‑analysis sessions.
- Assist technical leaders and project managers with scope, budget, staffing, and schedule management.
- Prepare structural calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Help develop new structural group standards and specifications.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with virtual teams.
- Assist in project administration: writing reports, drafting proposals, correspondence, tracking costs, and compiling progress reports.
- Review contractors’ shop drawings and submittals, researching and developing engineered solutions to requests for information.
- Support field activities: structural observations, monitoring, and other fieldwork.
- Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure personal and colleague safety.
- Strong knowledge of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes.
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness, manage time, and meet budgets and schedules.
- Proficiency in mentoring and developing junior staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced oral and written communication; proven example of written communication ability.
- Presentation and interview skills preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience directing production of 3‑D models and 2‑D structural drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience with finite‑element analysis software such as STAAD, RAM, SAP
2000, RISA. - Experience in heavy civil construction observation.
- Working knowledge of ACI 318, ACI 350, IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 24, applicable local codes and ordinances.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Professional Engineer license (PE). Ability to obtain PE.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience.
Typical office environment, in‑person full time five days per week; computer work; sedentary periods. Field work may involve exposure to the elements. Remote work possible after onboarding as required by project and supervisory needs.
