Job Overview

Field Service Electronics Technician at Eaton’s Critical Power Solutions (CPS) Division. This role is remote, based in a home office within the greater Southfield, MI region, with daily on‑site travel to customer sites and up to 25% overnight travel. A company vehicle is provided for field duties.

Compensation

Annual salary range: $53,253 – $78,104. The position is eligible for overtime and is paid on a regular schedule.

What You’ll Do

Eaton’s CPS Division designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic‑based products. In this role you will perform on‑site emergency repairs, start‑up services, and preventative maintenance in an on‑call environment. Products include UPS systems, power distribution units, and batteries. You will provide technical support to customers and serve as a technical advisor for operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment.

Basic (Required) Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Power Systems, Battery technologies, and/or Electronics experience (coursework and internship experience apply).
  • Valid, unrestricted State Driver’s license.
  • No relocation; must reside within the greater Southfield, MI region (Active Duty Military Service members are exempt).
  • Eaton will not sponsor immigration for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or related field, or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with Power Systems, Battery Technologies, and/or Electronics.
  • Ability to read schematic drawings and knowledge of troubleshooting, test and repair techniques.
  • Electrical Technology Certificate from an accredited institution.
Position Success Criteria
  • Daily travel to customer sites required; up to 25% overnight travel; may support customers outside the immediate region within the USA.
  • Work with other Field Service Technicians, following direction of the Lead Field Service Technician on site.
  • Perform tasks such as repetitive lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, standing, climbing, squatting, bending, kneeling, or driving extended distances.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Good understanding of single‑phase and three‑phase circuit theory; analog and digital electronic circuit theory; and microprocessor controls and programming.
  • Use of oscilloscope, perform phase rotation and phase alignment checks, and basic understanding of network functionality and sealed/wet‑celled battery theory.
  • Proper use of hand tools and insulated tools.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with company and customer rules.
  • Proficiency on products and field processes before field deployment.
  • High‑quality service delivery, self‑starter, motivator.
  • PC proficiency (Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to undergo and pass customer entrance requirements, including background checks and drug screenings.
