SummaryThe Material Costing Advisor leverages expertise, technology, and analytics to determine material and Build-To-Print (BTP) part costs for engineering projects, while being exposed to a wide cross-section of business functions and customer teams. This role also analyzes Bills of Materials for competitiveness, and negotiates with suppliers as needed. The advisor interacts with global customer units and counterparts in other regions.
Detailed DescriptionPerforms tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
Manages supplier RFQ process for specific Commodity group(s) across multiple engineering projects to ensure all costing due dates are achieved.
Lead component level supplier negotiations to establish competitive cost solutions.
Commodity expertise – depth knowledge of key commodity price drivers & sensitivities, performs general pricing & supply market trend analytics.
Supplier expertise - understands key suppliers and develops effective supplier relationships
Develop & execute commodity strategy including competitive benchmarking, delivering a commodity strategy enabling the overall program strategy, supplier analysis, development & selection.
Able to identify and justify alternate component solutions.
Able to provide competitive cost estimate for complex parts (Bid only).
Updates material prices database, analyzes components for competitiveness and customer compliance, review with management.
Generate material cost BOM used for bidding and presentation to management.
Collaborates with engineering teams to estimate Built-To-Print (BTP) part costs during product development projects and Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) cost reduction projects.
Consolidates and escalates all critical shortages and resolve delivery issues for development projects.
Participates in kick-off meetings and interacts with global customer’s units as well as counterparts in other regions.
Provides guidance to counterparts at the sites to ensure process compliance.
Extensive knowledge of BTP manufacturing materials, techniques, cycle times, and logistics.
Extensive knowledge of the BTP marketplace conditions including industry pricing, technology and supply/demand trends.
Working knowledge of Celestica’s global supply chain including strategic policies and objectives.
Strong knowledge of basic computer applications and the ability to learn and use multiple applications specific to this department including ERP (SAP) and office systems (Google G‑Suite and Microsoft Office Products).
Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
Strong knowledge of negotiation practices/methodologies.
Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and working under tight time deadlines.
Ability to evaluate, prioritize and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
Ability to read and understand BTP 2D production drawings.
Ability to review 3D models with viewing software.
Understanding of GD&T tolerances and the impact on part cost.
Six to ten years of relevant experience.
Direct experience is required in some or all of these product types: sheet metal parts, plastic and metal machined parts, weldments, and/or raw materials.
Background in supplier qualification (SQE) is a plus.
Fabrication experience in sheet metal, welding, or machining is a plus.
Experience with aPriori is a plus.
Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
Infrequent domestic and international overnight travel may be required.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, a related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
