Professional Summary
The Mechanical Estimator plays a critical role in developing accurate, detailed cost estimates for large capital construction projects across multiple disciplines. This position supports management with analytical insights, provides guidance to junior staff, and collaborates closely with engineers, project teams, and external partners. The Estimator contributes to pricing research, benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining organized project documentation and a comprehensive cost data library.
This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
- Perform precise quantity takeoffs based on available design documents for assigned disciplines.
- Obtain current pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, and other sources to support estimate development.
- Input takeoff data and develop unit cost pricing for specific construction disciplines.
- Collaborate with engineers and project team members to fully understand project scope and requirements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with A/E firms, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist staff in identifying opportunities to improve project efficiency, accuracy, and workflow processes.
- Maintain organized project documents, drawings, and specifications in accordance with company standards.
- Manage and update the internal cost data library to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Prepare cost reconciliations between multiple estimates and clearly explain cost variances and key drivers.
- Support pricing and benchmarking research efforts to enhance estimating accuracy and competitiveness.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimating staff as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of seven years of relevant estimating experience, preferably within manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or process piping environments.
- Proficiency with electronic takeoff tools, including CAD Measure or similar systems.
- Working knowledge of commercially available construction cost estimating software.
- Strong understanding of information technology tools, including Internet/Intranet platforms, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to analyze complex technical documents and perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain detailed project files and documentation.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Professional certifications such as RICS, CCE, CCM, AIA, PE, ASPE, AACEI, CVS, AVS, LEED AP, RA, or related appraisal licensure are preferred.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 – $60.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
