We are seeking a Building Controls Operations Specialist to join our Remote Operations Center team as a part of our growing Active Ops division located in Tampa, FL. McKinstry has a unique perspective on the life of a building, and our Technical Services suite of owner-direct offerings assists clients in making the best decisions to improve the efficiency, comfort, sustainability, and lifespan of their building.

The Florida Remote Operations Center (ROC) provides solutions for building mechanical & automation systems and operations support. Our team focuses on optimizing the performance, efficiency, and longevity of systems within the built environment. We perform services such as occupant comfort & IAQ issue diagnosis & resolution, UI graphics enhancement, systems engineering & standardization, integration, and technical support.

As a Building Controls Operations Specialist, you will provide remote troubleshooting support for BAS performance issues. You will also provide technical support and oversight of BAS contractors and client technicians for BAS-related workflow. Another important task will be to leverage your knowledge of BAS networks to ensure that remodeled systems are optimized to maximize data throughput and to ensure stable architectures to support the demanding needs of healthcare, critical facilities, higher education and K-12.

What you need to succeed at Mc Kinstry

Technical Degree / Bachelor’s or Data / Engineering Degree (desired) with relevant work experience.

3-5+ years of experience in building controls preferred, including commercial HVAC and BAS control experience with priority on Tridium (Niagara), Alerton, KMC, and JCI-Metasys systems. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to BAS field devices, code, and sequence of operation. Knowledge of building commissioning, optimization, facility O&M, and energy-saving programs is a plus.

  • Drive best-in-class deliverables and standard Remote Operations for the team.
  • Mentors & elevates tier 1 staff technical skills.

What you can expect in terms of qualifications and experience

Technical degree or bachelor’s in data/engineering or equivalent work experience. 3-5+ years of experience in building controls.

Experience with visualization tools like Excel, Tableau and Power

BI. Advanced understanding of building systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS) and programming. Proficiency in building data acquisition, analysis, and reporting. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Project management/leadership skills and business acumen are preferred. Ability to triage and diagnose root causes. Ability to manage portfolio-wide schedules and overrides. Intermediate knowledge of multiple controls systems (Alerton, Distech, Honeywell, Siemens, Tolon, Tridium, etc.).

Ability to manage highly technical issues and document findings.

T he pay range for this position is $30.55 – $42.75 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
