Position OverviewThe Biocompatibility Scientist will develop biocompatibility evaluation strategies, oversee projects, and provide objective evidence to support the biocompatibility of medical devices and materials according to ISO 10993 standards. This role supports product lifecycle, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides input regarding biocompatibility of materials and processes for new products, line extensions, and revisions to marketed products.
What You Will Be Doing- Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional team members (Regulatory, Clinical Affairs, QA, R&D, Manufacturing Engineering) to ensure timely biological assessments for new product development and internally and externally supplied products.
- Assist with scheduling, planning, and directing biocompatibility project activities, applying appropriate resources to ensure efficient implementation of New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering initiatives, including in sourcing and supplier change projects.
- Develop technical solutions to complex problems, ensuring innovative solutions aligned with organizational objectives.
- Manage biological assessments across multiple projects, providing critical review and interpretation of data and escalating constraints to upper management.
- Facilitate laboratory testing activities, including chemical characterization studies, toxicological risk assessments, biological testing, and laboratory investigations.
- Review, interpret, and summarize testing data, ensuring proper documentation and coordination of internal/external reports such as Biological Evaluation Plans and Reports.
- Serve as Corporate SME, supporting regulatory submissions, interactions with authorities (e.g., FDA, BSI), and on‑site assessments of biological safety compliance.
- Apply the Quality System and applicable Federal and International standards for medical device manufacturing and biological safety.
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Toxicology, or related fields (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry).
- Strong knowledge of ISO 10993 standards and biocompatibility principles.
- Experience in the medical device industry and biological safety compliance.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across diverse teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expertise and 5+ years of experience in chemical characterization, toxicological risk assessment, and biological testing.
8 AM – 5 PM EST, Monday‑Friday
Minimum and Maximum RateEstimated Min Rate: $120.00 per hour
Estimated Max Rate: $150.00 per hour
