Overview
Toole Design Group in Columbus, OH is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Principal Civil Engineer
. This role requires proven experience managing a diverse team to deliver highway or roadway projects from preliminary through final design, on time and on budget, while coordinating with clients and mentoring your team to deliver high-quality work. Projects range from complex roadways and streetscapes in urban settings to signature trail projects that highlight and enhance the natural environment. - Lead, manage, design, and implement roadway, streetscape, and active transportation projects from concept to construction.
- Coordinate conversations between disciplines, manage client relationships, and deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Participate in stakeholder and public outreach, feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents for innovative projects nationwide.
- Participate in business development pursuits in the home region and across the firm's Midwestern and North American offices.
- Professional Engineering license in OH (other Midwest states a plus)
- Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
- Proficiency in Micro Station (including Open Roads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D)
- At least 10 years (Senior Engineer) or 15 years (Principal Engineer) of engineering experience with construction documents and/or public agency construction administration
- At least 5 years in a project and/or design management role
- Broad knowledge in civil engineering with experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling, and design of accessible public spaces
- Proven track record delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget
- Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape/hardscape layouts
- Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
- Knowledge of project performance metrics and monitoring strategies
- Experience in business development including networking with colleagues and clients at public events and industry organizations
- Experience in Civil - Roadway - Highway design with interest in active transportation and Complete Streets Design
- Aspiring to be an expert sought after by clients and teaming partners
- Ability to generate and evaluate constructible and maintainable engineering solutions
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Passion for sustainability and challenging multimodal projects that improve livability
- Commitment to producing high-quality work and seeing projects built
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, or graphical)
- Ability to build relationships, bring enthusiasm to projects, and maintain attention to detail with problem-solving skills
This full-time position typically works a hybrid schedule, with at least two to three days in the office. We provide equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Columbus office opened in 2018 and is located downtown on Broad Street, accessible by foot, bicycle, and transit.
