Amentum seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to implement solutions, evaluate products, and build infrastructure that supports evolving customer needs. The role focuses on preparing, maintaining, and auditing operations documentation, user manuals, and reference manuals. The successful candidate may act as project leader and coordinate documentation services for the program.
ResponsibilitiesThe Mechanical Engineer will:
• Prepare, review, and maintain engineering documentation, including technical specifications and integration support.
• Audit designs and manage design configuration changes through controlled processes.
• Resolve field‑initiated engineering questions, conduct job‑site visits, and address design and constructability issues.
• Work with document‑management representatives to ensure all project documentation is complete and stored appropriately.
• Participate in maintenance, integration walk‑throughs, and test‑facility projects, engaging with field personnel.
• Provide technical leadership in an R&D testing environment, identifying issues, communicating solutions, and responding to unexpected challenges.
• Maintain a broader understanding of the program’s technical, operational, and logistical requirements.
- Technical degree (BA/BS) with 3‑10+ years of related experience, or 15 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Experience auditing designs and managing design configuration changes.
- Familiarity with variable‑frequency drive motors, pneumatic systems, or hydraulic systems.
- Experience with document management and project documentation repositories.
- US citizenship, security clearance eligible.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi‑organizational environment.
- Significant experience with integration and testing in a DOD‑related test program.
- Hands‑on technical leadership and proven record of generating quick‑react solutions from cradle to grave.
- Experience with testing‑facility projects, change management, and field personnel engagement.

Salary range: $125,000 – $145,000, commensurate with experience and location. Remote positions may have geographic‑dependent pay.
Essential Functions- Physical requirements may include lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Work environment can be inside (cubicle) or outside (varying climates). No unusual hazards.
- Operates office equipment (PC, printer, phone, etc.) and may need heavy‑equipment licenses.
- Normal hours:
Monday‑Thursday, 6:00 AM‑4:00 PM (flex weeks) or 6:00 AM‑3:00 PM (non‑flex). Attendance and punctuality are essential. - Professional behavior, clear written and verbal communication in English, appropriate grooming and dress.
- Independent transportation required; 10% travel, including possible airline travel, to customer and test sites.
