WORK LOCATION
DOTComm is located in Omaha, NE. Must be able to commute to office and client locations for in-person meetings and on-site work. Work location is hybrid with work-from-home dependent upon DOTComm and client needs.
POSITION SUMMARYAs a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the local area network, campus area network, wide area network, and the proper functioning and security of the network and voice systems. This includes design, planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of the components supporting the enterprise area network, Internet system, and voice systems utilized by The City of Omaha and Douglas County organizations.
This position assists in resolving major problems with network products, components, and protocols promptly.
- Architects short and long-term network and security strategies.
- Performs and validates data and voice network systems backups and assists in the planning for business interruption and disaster recovery operations.
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware, software, or other network and system problems. Replaces defective components when necessary.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Maintains operational vendor relationships.
- Interacts with clients, internal and external, on all aspects of identifying requirements and resolving network issues.
- Designs, configures, and installs complex voice and data network systems.
- Design and troubleshoot advanced call flows in the enterprise phone system.
- Maintains logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records.
- Plan and implements network security, including building firewalls, applying encryption to network applications, permissions, backup, and disaster recovery plans.
- Works on a project team as technical lead with the ability to re-plan a project or recommend project termination (if necessary) to reflect changes to priorities, cost, scope, schedule, budget, and resource availability.
- Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics.
- Evaluates and/or recommends purchases of network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software.
- Researches new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, and/or taking classes, and implements and/or recommends new technologies.
- Provides leadership, mentoring, and guidance to enable team members to complete assigned tasks.
- Maintains network-related site licenses for department/organization.
- Maintains an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
- Trains team members and users in system use as the subject matter expert.
- Must be available for emergency call-in, weekends, holidays, and varied hours as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or MIS, preferred; or equivalent work experience.
Experience- Minimum 4+ years experience as a high-level network administrator or network engineer on medium/large sized network of servers, desktop systems, and communications devices using current technologies
- Work-related experience with Mitel, Juniper, Palo Alto, Citrix/Netscaler, or comparable systems preferred
- Experience troubleshooting and designing network and VOIP systems required
- Legacy telephony experience is a plus!
Industry certifications:
Security, Network, Wireless, etc. is a plus
Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a motor vehicle records background check. Excellent verbal and written communication & customer service skills.
