Job Summary
Traveling Construction Materials Technician II role at Terracon.
100% travel throughout the Gulf Coast division (Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia). This position involves working on high‑profile construction projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more.
Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding site conditions, test requirements, and results. Transport material samples and documentation to the laboratory for analysis. Record, tabulate, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas. Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before communication and submission to the Project Manager.
- Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
- Assist higher level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules, practices, and other safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre‑task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification:
Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I. - ACI certification:
Concrete Strength Testing Technician. - Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt).
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Concrete).
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Laboratory).

- ICC certification in Reinforced Concrete.
