Traveling Construction Materials Technician II – Terracon

Terracon is a 100% employee‑owned multidiscipline consulting firm founded in 1965. This position is in the Gulf Coast division, covering Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, with 100% travel required.

This role involves field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel). You will communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and other stakeholders regarding site conditions, project requirements, and testing results. You will transport material samples to the laboratory, tabulate data, prepare written and digital reports, maintain equipment and vehicles, and assist in scheduling technicians.

Strict safety standards must be adhered to.

Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials. Communicate project information to relevant personnel. Transport material samples with documentation. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas. Assist with scheduling technicians. Adhere to strict safety standards.

• Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed.
• Provide clear documentation of findings.
• Perform basic data analysis before submitting to the Project Manager.
• Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel.
• Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
• Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
• Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
• Follow safety rules and practices, conduct pre‑task planning, and report safety concerns.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
• Experience with laptop computer use, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

• ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
  • Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
  • Concrete Strength Testing Technician
• Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

• Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
  • NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
  • NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
  • ICC certification in one or more of the following categories:
    Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
  • AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
  • ASNT Level II certification in Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
  • Other national, regional, state, and local materials related certifications that demonstrate experience and written examination.

This is a Remote Only position; employees work from home or another location. The national standard salary range is $19.50–$27.50 per hour, adjusted based on the applicant’s location and qualifications.
