Job Description
Nana Construction is seeking a highly motivated and experienced geotechnical and/or environmental drilling professional to fill the role of a Tailings and Water (T&W) Drilling Coordinator for a secondment opportunity at Teck Alaska Incorporated's (TAK) Red Dog Operations.
This role is critical for leading pre-drilling planning and coordinating the day-to-day field execution of multiple geotechnical and environmental drilling programs for TAK's T&W group. The Coordinator will serve as the key liaison between TAK, drilling contractors, and engineering consultants to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operations.
ResponsibilitiesThe T&W Drilling Coordinator will be responsible for providing on-the-ground oversight and administrative support for T&W drilling projects, including (but not limited to) the Main Waste Stockpile (MWS) drilling execution, feasibility beach investigation, and Water Supply Dam (WSD) investigative drilling.
Safety & Field Oversight- Lead field program safety and conduct daily field visits to each ongoing program to ensure safe and productive job completion.
- Complete all necessary safety forms and checks, such as Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), dig permits, program kickoff meetings, and daily supervisor field verifications.
- Coordinate with QAQC and drilling personnel for any technical, practical, or logistical needs that arise during the project.
- Complete on-site safety training for any QAQC personnel involved in the drilling programs before commencement.
- Create material requisitions for drill materials, instrumentation, or drillhole backfill, ensuring materials are planned and ordered according to the specific needs of each program.
- Create and update cost trackers and program schedules for each project's Purchase Order (PO).
- Ensure contractor Daily Work Summaries (DWS) align with the approved PO proposal.
- Adjust project schedules weekly based on delays or advancements and send updates to all necessary informed parties.
- Coordinate meetings and information sharing with various onsite groups, contractors, and consultants to ensure clarity.
- Document project alternatives identified to address significant issues, along with proposed solutions and action plans.
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with TAK management regarding work progress and overall budget.
- Prepare and submit monthly status update reports to track work progress and project completion trends.
- Provide weekly cost updates to the TAK representative, indicating the breakdown of budgeted cost, spent cost, and percent of budget.
- Submit Deviation Notices for scope changes, significant schedule changes, or when the project budget reaches 80% of the PO value.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in geotechnical, environmental, exploration, or mine site-related drilling.
- Technical Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge in drilling methods, materials, and drill rig repair. - Instrumentation:
Familiarity with the installation of geotechnical and water monitoring/sampling instrumentation. - Software
Skills:
Competent in Microsoft Suite products. - Field Competence:
Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field under changing conditions. - Communication:
Excellent communication skills for technical reporting, presentations, and cross-functional collaboration. - Logistics:
Ability to work in remote field conditions with a rotational work shift. - Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
- Schedule:
This is a rotational position, the Coordinator’s will be required to maintain continuous on-site drilling coordination, safety oversight, and communication during their rotation. - Duration:
Support is required from April 1, 2026, through the end of the drilling season (estimated as September 30, 2026), with potential for extension.
