As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing mechanical components—often molded plastic parts—for our next‑generation analytical instruments. You’ll work across the full development cycle, from early concept and prototyping to final production, ensuring robust, manufacturable, and user‑centered solutions.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and cross‑functional team, working closely with colleagues in Business Development, Front‑End Innovation, UI/UX, Supply Chain, and Production. Your work will be anchored in FOSS’ strategic roadmap and contribute directly to our mission of sustainable innovation.

• Take a high degree of ownership in developing instruments
• Translate user needs and high‑level requirements into mechanical solutions
• Create early prototypes and validate design concepts
• Ensure manufacturability and robustness through tolerance analysis and design principles
• Collaborate with toolmakers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to finalize production‑ready designs
• Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes and product quality

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical product development
• Proven track record in finalizing parts for production
• Strong proficiency in 3D/2D CAD design (preferred Autodesk Inventor)
• Deep understanding of DfA, DfM, and DfS principles
• Experience in designing plastic parts for products
• Fluent in English

• Knowledge of injection molding and tooling design
• Experience with FEA/CAE simulation tools
• Familiarity with material selection and qualification (metals, glass, thermoplastics, elastomers)
• Skilled in prototyping and additive manufacturing
• Understanding of standards and regulations (ISO, CE, food/medical compliance)

• A proactive problem‑solver with a conceptual mindset and hands‑on approach
• Comfortable taking ownership and driving projects forward
• Helpful and takes pride in guiding and building on younger talents
• Thriving in the later phases of development with a focus on quality and deadlines
• Collaborative and communicative, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly
