Job SummaryThe Civil Senior Principal Engineer is a leadership opportunity to grow Cannon’s Water Resources operations in Orange County. Reporting to the Director of Water Resources, this role conducts and drives business development with county agencies and clients, oversees a diverse portfolio of wastewater and water treatment projects, mentors engineers, and delivers excellent client service and delivery.
Job Responsibilities- Secure new work by establishing and fostering client relationships and developing proposals (scope, schedule, and fee estimates).
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with ongoing clients and actively seek to expand services.
- Manage a variety of civil engineering Public Works‑Water Resources projects concurrently.
- Track project scope, budgets, and schedules to ensure contract commitments and profitability.
- Primary interface with clients on coordination, design follow‑up, and quality standards.
- Manage quality assurance and quality control.
- Prepare PS&Es for water resources projects, including water, sewer, and storm drains (pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, storage reservoirs, etc.).
- Grow, lead, and mentor an Orange County Water Resources team.
- Direct and mentor project and design engineers on technical matters; serve as technical resource.
- Engage in professional and community activities that promote the Cannon brand (writing, speaking, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
- Minimum 15 years of Civil Engineering experience, specifically Public Works/Water Resources projects.
- Minimum 8 years of project management experience in Public Works/Water Resources projects.
- California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, Hydrology & Hydraulic, AES, WSPG, Flowmaster, and similar civil engineering design software.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite.
- Proven track record in delivering superior client service and delivery.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time and within budget.
- Experience in staff management, mentoring, and resource management a plus.
Competitive salary range: $150,000–$220,000 annually.
