We are seeking a Minnesota-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to join our engineering team as a Lead Engineer
. This role reports directly to the Engineering Department Manager and is primarily based in our Shakopee office, with flexible working hours and limited work-from-home options as needed.
The Lead PE will play a critical role in producing HVAC and plumbing construction documents
, fabrication drawings
, and coordinated 3D models
, while also serving as a subject matter expert supporting project development, equipment selection, pricing, and field technical support. As the company grows, this role will expand to include increased leadership and responsibility.
- Serve as the signing Professional Engineer for construction document deliverables
- Lead HVAC and mechanical piping system design, analysis, and selection
- Supervise and mentor engineering and design staff
- Act as the primary engineering point of contact for assigned projects
- Collaborate closely with Construction Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
- Coordinate with external stakeholders including Owners, Architects, and Trade Contractors (Electrical, Structural, Civil, etc.)
- Support internal teams including project managers, field superintendents, foremen, VDC, estimating, and purchasing
- Apply sound engineering judgment to make timely decisions in fast-paced, design-build environments
- Champion constructability, coordination, and practical engineering solutions
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Minnesota (ability to obtain licensure in other states preferred)
- Strong experience in HVAC and mechanical piping system design
- Demonstrated leadership experience guiding design teams and coordinating with clients
- Proficiency with Revit/CAD
, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office 365 - Experience producing construction-ready and fabrication-level documents
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Strong Knowledge Of:
- HVAC system analysis, selection, and design
- Packed equipment, pumps, and hydronic systems
- Minnesota Mechanical and Energy Codes
- ASHRAE Standards (90.1, 62.1, etc.) and ASHRAE Fundamentals
- HVAC load calculations (spreadsheet-based, IES VE)
Working Knowledge Of:
- Minnesota Fire/NFPA, Building (mechanical-related), and Plumbing Codes
- Model codes for other states
- SMACNA standards
- Plumbing systems
- VRF and refrigeration systems
- Controls, schematics, and current construction methods
- Leading design teams in collaboration with owners and design professionals
- Solving complex design and field challenges through teamwork
- Established relationships with local industry vendors and representatives
- Experience in design-build mechanical construction environments
