The Role - CAD Design and Development Engineer

This is a rare opportunity for a hands-on design engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept through to production, working closely with manufacturing and customers, and playing a key role within a close-knit engineering team.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of new products, alongside supporting and enhancing existing product ranges.
While primarily an office-based 3D CAD role, this position also offers meaningful hands-on involvement — supervising builds, supporting testing, and collaborating with procurement, production and Quality Assurance to ensure products are delivered efficiently and compliantly throughout their lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Design and development of pressure vessels, manifold assemblies, components, power units and complete engineered systems to customer specifications and recognised international standards
Production of regulatory compliance documentation
Translating customer requirements into commercially viable engineering solutions
Supporting production and Quality Assurance teams during build and test (on-site and occasionally at customer premises)
Checking and approving drawings for compliance within the engineering team
Managing technical files, Bills of Materials, engineering changes and document revision control
Providing post-handover technical support to customers and internal teams
What We’re Looking For
This role is suited to an engineer who is confident working within a drawing office environment and collaborating with colleagues across different teams.
Essential Requirements
HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design and DFM
Strong 3D CAD skills (ideally Solid Works)
Proven experience designing custom hydraulic manifolds, pressure vessels and hydraulic components
Experience compiling Bills of Materials and managing engineering change and revision processes
Experience supervising assembly and testing of bespoke hydraulic components and systems
Ability to produce technical reports, user manuals and compliance documentation to relevant CEN directives
Experience modifying and improving existing designs to optimise performance and cost
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with customers and cross-functional teams
Ability to maintain structured project and technical files
Full UK driving licence
