Overview
We are seeking a skilled ATEX Electrical Engineer to install, inspect, maintain, and support electrical systems within hazardous and potentially explosive environments. This ATEX Electrical Engineer role supports fuel storage and dispensing systems and requires a strong focus on safety, compliance, and technical excellence.
Working as part of a specialist engineering team, the ATEX Electrical Engineer will carry out electrical installations, inspections, fault finding, and testing in ATEX-designated areas, ensuring all work complies with ATEX directives, DSEAR regulations, and UK safety standards. This is a hands-on ATEX Electrical Engineer position with site-based work across a range of industrial fuel and energy projects.
As an ATEX Electrical Engineer, what you'll be doing:
Install, inspect, test, and maintain electrical systems in ATEX hazardous areas as an ATEX Electrical Engineer
Carry out inspections and audits to ensure full compliance with ATEX and DSEAR regulations
Diagnose and repair electrical faults on complex fuel, power, and control systems
Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
Complete inspection reports, risk assessments, and compliance records accurately
Support project delivery through safe installation and commissioning activities
Provide technical guidance on ATEX-related electrical matters to colleagues and clients
Work closely with engineering, safety, and operations teams to ensure compliant project execution
What we'll need from you:
Valid ATEX certification (e.g. Comp Ex Ex07/08 or equivalent)
NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations or an equivalent recognised qualification
Proven experience working as an ATEX Electrical Engineer or within hazardous / explosive environments
Strong understanding of ATEX directives and DSEAR regulations
Experience with in fuel, oil & gas, chemical, or similar industrial sectors
Ability to work independently while maintaining high safety and quality standards
Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation and reporting skills
