Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Permanent Geoscience Database Specialist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5 x 2 schedule, Day shift.

Position

Permanent Geoscience Database Specialist

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Mineral Resource Evaluation and is a critical role in Hudbay British Columbia Business Unit for managing data from production and exploration work streams and ensuring compliance with QAQC standards and auditing. The role will manage data such as geological, geotechnical and metallurgical to support geological modelling and estimation.

Responsibilities

  • MRM Data management and administration include assay, geological, geotechnical and metallurgical information.

  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across departments.

  • Develop and maintain archive systems for all data, including logging data, downhole surveys, final coordinates and assay certificates.

  • Monitoring and reporting of QAQC results

  • Ensuring regular database backups on company servers.

  • Sample requisition preparation.

  • Liaise between operational and exploration teams and laboratories.

  • Apply best practice processes to data capturing and analysis.

  • Facilitate creation of database connections through ODBC or alternatives to avoid manual entries.

  • Help with database software updates, training and troubleshooting.

  • Provide resource geologists with regular database updates for MRMR estimation.

  • Conduct audits of inputs and databases as required.

  • Perform periodic laboratories inspection

  • Follow Hudbay health, safety and environmental procedures if applicable.

  • Support department heads with annual reporting and internal/external audits related to SOX compliance.

  • Support NI 43-101 report writing related to database management.

  • Education & Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Member or Member in Training with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, related discipline.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL, ac Quire GIM Suite, QAQC analysis and Python

  • At least 7 years experience in the mining industry and geology and 3 years in database administration.

  • Possess strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills,

  • Ability to manage data migration projects, software upgrades and archival schedules

  • Attention to detail.

  • Self-motivated and able to work alone or with minimal supervision,

  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

  • Working Conditions

  • Remote work from home office in British Columbia, will require frequent trips to the Copper Mountain Mine site office, core logging facility and internal/external laboratories when needed. Travel to areas other than Copper Mountain Mine site and core logging facilities is paid for by the company.

  • Rate of Pay

    $131,580 - $146,200
