As an Engineering Technician in our Bridges and Civils team within the Transportation business, you will be responsible for delivering a variety of civil and structural computer‑aided design and modelling packages for new‑build highways and rail schemes, renewals schemes, assessment works and asset‑management schemes. Your duties will include the production of drawing and modelling packages, to budget, to programme, and in accordance with Atkins

Réalis’ quality assurance systems. We work on a diverse range of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland, including the multiple sections of the A9 dualling, Network Rail’s CP7 Maintenance Programme, and the N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy (Ireland). The team also supports non‑transportation civil engineering and structures projects throughout the UK and internationally, such as the Rolls‑Royce Small Modular Reactor programme and local authority projects for councils across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Your Role

Using your technical and delivery skills, you will be responsible for delivering a variety of civil and structural computer‑aided design and modelling packages for new build highways and rail schemes, renewals schemes, assessment works and asset‑management schemes.

Responsibilities include:

Technical:

  • Production of technical drawings using relevant CAD/BIM software.
  • Assisting with site surveys and other site activities.
  • Supporting engineers with the development of design solutions.

Stakeholder:

  • Liaising with customers in a responsive and client focused manner.
  • Attending client meetings.

Management:

  • Responsible for completion of assigned tasks on time and within cost.
  • Adhering to the company’s Quality, Safety and Environmental procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with company CAD and Digital Engineering standards.

People:

  • Taking responsibility for your own development of new skills.
About you
  • A BTEC/HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering subject or working towards a BTEC/HNC or equivalent qualification.
  • Working towards an Eng Tech professional qualification with the ICE.
  • Experience of preparing engineering sketches and plans from conception through to construction.
  • Robust IT skills, proficient in the use of MS Office and relevant software including AutoCAD with some working knowledge of other modelling software such as Revit, Micro Station and Civils 3D.
  • Proven ability to deliver work within set time frames.
  • Flexibility for occasional periods working away from normal office location.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Ability to produce reinforcement bar bending schedules.
  • Knowledge of CADS‑RC design and detailing software.
  • Experience of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) Highways Standards.
  • Ability to produce drawings containing BIM and 3D information (AECOsim, Civils 3D or Revit).
  • Knowledge of Project Wise, Revit and Micro Station.
