Position Overview
The Process Engineer (Senior) will work as part of the Process Design Team, providing support to multiple projects across various stages, including proposal development, conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design, as well as system testing (QA/QC) and commissioning.
The Process Engineer (Senior) will act as the process design lead for specific projects, and will:
Lead the process design
Develop process calculations and engineering documentation
Review the work of more junior engineers
Communicate technical information to the Process Design Team Lead, Project Manager, and others as required
Discuss process design matters with clients, vendors, and third parties.
The Process Engineer (Senior) will also contribute to other projects and proposal development as a subject matter expert.
This position is based in Delta, BC, with the flexibility to work from home as project and team responsibilities allow; travel to site may be required in some instances.
Key Responsibilities
Review tender documents for pre-project planning.
Develop budget estimates with support from junior process engineers and procurement specialists – contribute technical expertise to inform budget development.
Draft project proposals for clients.
Conduct data analysis and develop project design basis.
Conduct technology assessment / review.
Develop preliminary and detailed process design calculations/modelling (manual and software-assisted).
Contribute technical expertise to equipment sizing and selection – discuss technical aspects with vendors, as required.
Sketch project drawings (P&’s and PFD’s) and provide process input data for the Mechanical Design Team.
Lead the development of engineering documentation such as equipment lists, control narratives, QA/QC checklists, and Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
Lead process-related risk assessments (e.g. Haz Op).
Draft technical project reports.
Review relevant design codes, regulations, permits, and health and safety documentation as they relate to the project.
Develop pilot and bench scale test program design.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company’s engineering tools (calculation spreadsheets, document templates, etc.). Ensure quality standards are met within each project, as applicable.
Mentor or train other team members as required.
Support project management with reporting, document package compilation, and other tasks, as required.
Qualifications
In addition to a valid driver’s license, applicants should have the following experience and/or qualifications:
Chemical or Process Engineering (water/wastewater) degree and P.Eng. registration or eligible to apply for P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia.
5+ years of process design, proposal and budget development experience
Experience designing sewage or wastewater treatment plants and knowledge of various biological treatment solutions
Experience with Bio Win or similar design software
Comfortable working on various projects at the same time
Comfortable presenting technical information in client meetings and similar environments
Knowledge of pilot and bench testing practices is an asset
Experience with construction, commissioning, and/or operation of wastewater treatment systems is an asset
Health & Safety, and Quality driven
Drug testing may be required to access some project sites.
