System Safety Engineer

Role Overview :
Within Eleo we take the safety of our battery packs seriously. As battery packs are safety-critical systems, we follow our internal processes to make our batteries state of the art from both safety and performance perspectives. In this role you will have a direct impact on these aspects by:
Safety Analysis:
Performing safety analysis at system level and cascading requirements to other domains.
Product Knowledge:
Build a deep understanding of the different use cases of battery systems in off-highway applications and the requirements and impact on our systems.
Team Development:
Training, developing, and educating the team on safety practices related to development.
International Standards:
Investigating upcoming safety standards related to battery systems and off-highway systems together with the product compliance & safety team. In addition, ensure you are guiding the team to follow functional safety standards like ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO 13849.
External Stakeholders:
Be the expert contact for Eleo with safety assessors/certifying bodies, manage and develop these relationships and implement updates where required, leading to improving our existing development process, templates, and tooling based on new standards and best practices.
Systems Engineering:
Additionally, you will support the systems team in general with your systems engineering experience.
Provide expertise and bring experience of:
ISO 13849 and/or ISO 26262
Off-Highway applications and/or battery systems
Systems engineering practices
Hazard and Risk analysis, FTA, FMEA, probabilistic risk assessment
Requirements tooling and safety tooling like Medini
Planning, identifying, documenting, and mitigating product/system hazards

Key Responsibilities:

Assessing new applications/use cases to check compliance with existing product safety, need for additional safety measures
Ensuring new developed products meet desired safety standards and prepare documentation/testing for proofing.
Create FMEA/FTA tools & templates. Educate (system) engineers. Create awareness.
Collaborate with Product compliance & safety team for identification of regulatory requirements w.r.t. system & function safety. Collect safety evidence and build safety case.
Review and approve engineering changes from a system safety and reliability perspective
Investigate incidents to identify root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Developing and maintaining safety documentation, including safety cases, safety assessment reports, and hazard logs
Requirements/

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or master's Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
5 years of experience within a safety discipline either battery related and/or off-highway construction machinery or automotive market experience.
Familiar with or has experience in applying ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and/or ISO 13849. If you have delivered a project leading to 26262 compliance, this may be a distinct advantage.
Fluent in Dutch & English both verbally and written.
Able to explain complex theory efficiently and in a concise manner. Able to present/share their ideas.
Has excellent communication skills to effectively interact with engineers and architects;
Is experienced in applying techniques HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, FHA and especially in functional safety engineering in safety-critical applications;
Certified functional safety expert (i.e. TUV certified functional safety engineer, or functional safety certified professional/expert. (preferred)
Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and practices.
Basic project management skills (preferred)
