About the Role  A leading international engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced  HVAC Lead Designer (ZZP/Freelance)  to support a portfolio of highly complex construction projects across the Netherlands. From high‑performance laboratories and hospitals to large‑scale high‑rise buildings and sustainable redevelopment projects, you will play a key role in delivering advanced HVAC system designs.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the technical design and coordination of HVAC systems from concept through detailed design. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams—architects, structural engineers, sustainability specialists, and digital engineering experts—while contributing to future‑ready, energy‑efficient, and high‑quality engineering solutions.
This long‑term freelance assignment offers continuity, technical depth, and the opportunity to influence landmark projects in both Dutch and international markets.

Key Responsibilities   Lead the design and development of HVAC systems from concept (VO) through detailed engineering
Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high‑performing building services solutions
Develop HVAC concepts for complex buildings such as laboratories, healthcare facilities, and high‑rise structures
Ensure design quality, consistency, and technical compliance across all project phases
Review and optimise HVAC designs, introducing innovative and energy‑efficient solutions
Support design reviews, technical assessments, and stakeholder coordination meetings
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers when required
Work proactively in a collaborative environment—no siloed working
Requirements   Strong proficiency in Dutch (essential) and excellent communication skills
4–8 years of relevant experience in HVAC design within building services engineering
Proven experience delivering HVAC systems for complex building types (labs, healthcare, high‑tech, high‑rise, or similar)
Strong knowledge of HVAC system design including air handling, ventilation, heating, cooling, and controls
Experience working in BIM environments; familiarity with computational/digital engineering tools is a plus
Strong technical expertise with a focus on performance, sustainability, and innovation
Structured, coordinated, and team‑oriented working approach
Comfortable engaging with clients and multidisciplinary stakeholders
Available on a ZZP/freelance basis
