Job Summary
Senior Engineer – Building Structures (Full‑time). Responsible for the technical design and delivery of schemes from inception through to handover to the client.
Responsibilities- Develop innovative and sustainable designs from concept for UK and international multi‑disciplinary projects, including high‑rise, stadia/arenas, urban regeneration, healthcare, commercial & mixed‑use, major refurbishment, data centres.
- Participate in tender bids and business development opportunities.
- Agree fees and contribute to the management and commercial position on projects.
- Exercise independent judgement to resolve technical issues.
- Mentor and develop junior team members and support their progress toward Chartership.
- Own and lead the design process, encouraging team to deliver required solutions on programme and providing technical review, mentoring and advice.
- Manage processes to resolve technical issues and risks in a timely, cost‑effective manner.
- Form strong working relationships with other WSP disciplines, external consultants, stakeholders and clients.
- Provide sustainable structural solutions from concept through to detailed design and construction.
- Provide specialist advice on sustainable design, net‑zero carbon, MMC & DfMA.
- Report to a senior member of the team and work on high‑profile multi‑disciplinary development projects across the UK and internationally.
- Degree or HNC/HND qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Chartered or following a path to chartership (IStruct
E or ICE). - Solid experience in structural engineering design across all materials.
- Detailed working knowledge of national codes and standards.
- Proven understanding of the design process with working knowledge of brief/scope documents and experience in producing calculations.
- Experience with structural design software: ETABS, RAM Structural System, Tekla Structural Designer & Tedds.
- Experience with Revit, Rhino and Grasshopper is beneficial.
- Experience working with clients and contractors to achieve technical solutions.
- Enthusiasm and passion for engineering and a desire to work in an innovative dynamic environment.
