Job Title: Nuclear Structural Integrity Stress Engineer

Location: Burton on Trent (flexible hybrid working, with time split between the office and working from home)

Salary range: £50,000 to £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Overview

We are looking to recruit engineers experienced in assessing the structural integrity of components for clients in the nuclear industry. The role involves using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to conduct strength, fatigue (low cycle and high cycle), creep and defect tolerance assessments for safety critical parts, support new designs, solve operational problems and justify life extension of existing assets.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct strength, fatigue, creep and defect tolerance assessments of safety critical parts using FEA methods.
  • Deliver and lead projects across the Frazer‑Nash portfolio, supporting customers in defence, energy and transport sectors.
  • Develop technical approaches and deliver insights to meet customer requirements.
  • Communicate with customers, make structured decisions, solve problems and show initiative and ownership.
  • Provide support to team members on project delivery, client relationship building and capability development.
  • Maintain accountability for own work, collaborating with more experienced engineers when required.
Qualifications
  • A degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Technical knowledge in mechanical/structural engineering.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus, Ansys or LS‑DynA).
  • Experience in different failure mechanisms: strength, fatigue (low cycle and high cycle), creep and fracture.
  • Experience with codes and standards (ASME III, ASME VIII, API
    579, BS7608, BS7910, R5/R6).
  • Pre‑employment screening and UK National Security Vetting clearance required.
