An excellent opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a specialist civil engineering contractor based near St Albans in Hertfordshire.
This role offers involvement in UK-wide infrastructure projects, strong career progression, and a competitive salary package with flexible working options.
The successful Managing Quantity Surveyor will work on a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, typically valued between £250,000 and £6 million, with most schemes around £1 million.
Projects are delivered across the UK and may include specialist engineering works supporting construction and infrastructure delivery.
Responsibilities and DutiesThe Managing Quantity Surveyor will play a key commercial leadership role, ensuring effective cost management and contract administration across multiple projects.
- Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple civil engineering projects
- Administer NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, ensuring compliance and best practice
- Lead on early warning notices and compensation events
- Oversee cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Manage programme integration and alignment with risk registers
- Provide commercial advice to project teams and senior stakeholders
- Monitor project performance and identify commercial risks and opportunities
- Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required
- Attend client meetings and occasionally travel to project sites across the UK
- Ensure projects are delivered within budget and in line with contractual obligations
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC contract knowledge and a background in civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
- Experience managing early warning notices and compensation events
- Demonstrated ability to integrate programme and risk management processes
- Background in civil engineering, infrastructure, or general civils projects
- Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites across the UK
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field
- Chartered status (MRICS) or working towards is desirable
- Relevant professional training in NEC contracts is advantageous
