About the VTBL DepartmentOur team in the VSL Technologies Business Line supports VSL’s profit centers with cutting‑edge technology solutions. Our portfolio includes structural bearings, ground anchors, post‑tensioning systems, stay direction cable systems, and all related equipment. From research and development to the final handover, our multidisciplinary team covers the entire product lifecycle while focusing on reducing the carbon footprint in the infrastructure sector.
We are dedicated to advancing innovative engineering and high‑quality execution to preserve the built environment. Our diverse engineering teams blend civil, structural, mechanical, and data science skills in a collaborative, gender‑diverse setting. This is a position with a workload of 80–100% and is available immediately.
Your Role & Main ResponsibilitiesAs an International Mechanical & Digital Engineer based in Bern, you will be part of the VSL Technology team and contribute to the development of innovative structural health monitoring tools and digital solutions. You will work at the interface of mechanical engineering and digital technology, supporting both product development and real‑world site applications.
Development & Engineering- Contribute to the development of a permanent structural health monitoring tool
- Enhance user interfaces with innovative new features
- Collaborate with team members to develop and implement project‑related solutions
- Test and validate cutting‑edge products
- Prepare comprehensive documentation for usage, qualification, and manufacturing procedures
- Ensure quality standards are met throughout the development and testing cycle
- Write detailed reports and present project findings
- Work closely with the VTBL Team, TC Team, BDM and PCM
- Support potential international travel and on‑site project activities
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field
- Intermediate level (3–5 years); hands‑on experience with Python and/or C/C++ required
- Python development and coding; data management and analysis; project management support; familiarity with sensors, controllers and equipment prototyping; CAD knowledge (Solid Works or Inventor) advantageous;
Java a plus
- English: C1 proficient (mandatory) – English is the internal working language at VSL
- German & French: advantageous
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Open‑minded and proactive attitude
- Good documentation and reporting skills
- 25 days of annual leave, plus 6 additional compensatory days earned through weekly overtime, enabling company closure between Christmas and New Year, plus one additional bridge day determined by the VSL Switzerland management team
