The Thunder Bay location is hiring a full‑time permanent Operations Forester, Ontario Woodlands – Remote Operations.
Overview- This is a field‑based, camp‑based position with overnight accommodations at a full‑service camp
- Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Serve as the primary field contact and liaison with contractor staff
- Collaborate with all staff, harvest, and road construction contractors to maximize operational efficiency and minimize cost
- Work with contractor staff and a Planning Forester to ensure AWS information is obtained for submission
- Coordinate with contractor staff to determine any necessary FMP amendment and/or AWS revisions to sustain operations on the licences
- Ensure compliance with governmental and internal standards for safety, environment, and utilisation
- Monitor and approve Forest Operations Inspection Reports from harvest, access, and water crossings
- Assist with departmental budgets for good cost control systems
- Help develop FMP and AWS operating and road plans
- Take an active role in the continuous improvement program to maximise productivity
- Reinforce quality specifications with employees and contractors at all facilities
- Assist in monitoring log quality to meet customer needs
- Monitor compliance with Collective Agreements, fostering cooperative relationships
- Develop relationships with governmental, public agencies and the public
- Serve as the company representative on the Local Citizen’s Committee
- Provide operational competence to support the Operations Superintendent
- Bilingual in English and French is required
, as the role works closely with Quebec‑based contractors daily - 3‑5 years of proven operational harvesting and road building experience
- Degree in Forestry with professional designation (or ability to achieve) or Forestry Technology with extensive operational or planning experience; certified FOIP inspector accreditation or ability to attain
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with all organizational levels and adapt to change
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, organisational and problem‑solving skills
- Passion for continuous improvement in health and safety, efficiency, production and planning targets for Ontario Woodlands
- Proficiency with MS Office and reliable computer skills; knowledge of ESRI software, Avenza, GPS
- Strong attention to detail and big‑picture thinking
- Salary range: CAD $85,000 to $106,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience
