ABOUTTHE ROLE
LRI Engineering is seeking a Project Consultant (Fire & Life Safety Services) to join our growing consulting team. This entry-level role offers hands‑on experience supporting fire safety management programs and contributing to emergency management initiatives.
Working closely with senior consultants, the Project Consultant will support project execution, contribute to client deliverables, and gradually take on increased responsibility, including managing smaller projects with guidance. This position reports to a Team Lead or Manager within the Fire & Life Safety Services team and provides strong opportunities for technical and professional growth.
JOB FUNCTIONS- Support and/or lead assigned fire and life safety projects, ensuring deliverables are completed in accordance with project timelines, quality standards, and established documentation protocols.
- Assist senior consultants in coordinating and executing project tasks for multi-year projects and national programs.
- Conduct client consultations via telephone, email, and written communication to gather information, assess needs, and provide project updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend meetings with clients, stakeholders, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction to discuss project requirements and technical considerations.
- Design, prepare, and facilitate training sessions, including fire warden training, supervisory staff training, and evacuation drills, delivered both in person and virtually.
- Draft project proposals within assigned signing authority, outlining project scope, timelines, resources, and fees.
- Conduct site audits, building condition assessments, hazard identification risk assessments, and stakeholder interviews to support the development of fire safety plans, evacuation plans, alternative measure plans, and technical reports.
- Attend and evaluate evacuation drills and contribute to recommendations for improvement.
- Apply relevant codes and standards, including the Ontario Fire Code (OFC), National Fire Code (NFC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), applicable NFPA standards, and industry best practices.
- Interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Build foundational knowledge of building systems, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate and timely timesheet submissions and support invoicing and client billing follow-ups as required.
- Travel locally to attend meetings, site visits, training sessions, and drills.
- College Diploma in Fire Inspection and Fire Safety Education, Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- NFPA 1031 and/or NFPA 1035 certification is considered an asset.
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to support and/or lead multiple projects, including planning, coordination, and execution of work with appropriate guidance.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate technical documentation, including fire safety plans, evacuation plans, reports, and training materials.
- Comfort and confidence with public speaking to facilitate training sessions, presentations, and meetings both in person and online.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address fire, emergency, and life safety issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Competitive compensation ($65,000 - $85,000).
