Job Overview
Senior Water Resources Consultant – Mine Water Practice Lead. Responsible for leading technical analyses related to water balance modelling, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and engineering studies for Barr’s mining and industrial clients.
Key Responsibilities- Lead technical analyses for water balance modelling, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and engineering studies.
- Interact with, coordinate, and potentially lead multidisciplinary project teams.
- Mentor junior staff through project work.
- Advise clients on mine water management strategies, completing alternatives analyses.
- Perform business development activities such as delivering conference presentations or writing proposals.
- Bachelor’s degree in math, science, engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience developing water balance models, including spreadsheet-based and advanced simulation tools.
- Experience designing surface water impoundments such as process ponds, water supply dams, and reservoirs.
- Statistical analysis of hydrological data, including cumulative frequency analysis.
- Experience advising clients on mine water management strategies and alternatives analysis, with a track record of building and sustaining client relationships.
- Experience in probabilistic analysis or modelling, uncertainty analyses, and/or Monte Carlo analyses for risk assessments.
- Proficiency with hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality modelling tools.
- Current, valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada, no sponsorship required.
- More than 10 years working on projects directly related to the above responsibilities at a consulting engineering firm or mining/industrial worksite.
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in civil or environmental engineering.
- P.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA.
- Experience with Gold Sim, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XPSWMM/PCSWMM, HSPF, Hydro
CAD, MS Excel, or the MIKE Suite of tools. - Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop or maintain client service.
- Experience with mine closure and reclamation planning, including community involvement.
- Familiarity with publicly available datasets such as USGS, Canadian hydrometric stations, NWS, Environment Canada, and similar sources.
- Expertise in data analysis, visualization and presentation; hydraulic structure analysis and design; risk-informed decision-making; climate change analysis; water recovery and reuse; cost-benefit assessments; due diligence services.
- Annual salary range: $140,000 - $180,000, based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
- Eligible for discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
- Exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
