Worley Canada Construction is currently seeking Material Planners to support project execution by ensuring materials are defined, structured, and prepared within the materials management system in advance of construction activities. The Material Planner is responsible for the upstream planning and system setup of materials data to ensure construction readiness. This role is accountable for establishing accurate material requirements, structuring material data within the materials management system (Site Sense), and ensuring alignment between engineering deliverables, procurement data, and construction needs.
The Material Planner enables effective field execution by ensuring materials are visible, traceable, and properly configured in the system prior to receipt and use on site.
Work Conditions
This role may be Site-based or Home-Office based, project dependent
Supports project sites across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan
Living Out Allowance, travel, or camp may be applicable, dependent on project assignment
Where home office based, occasional travel to fabrication yards or project sites may be required
Reporting & Interfaces
Reports functionally to the Materials Management leadership structure
Assigned to a project, and reports operationally to the applicable Materials Lead, Major Projects
Frequently interfaces with:
Procurement / expediting
Construction planning / Workface Planning
Home office / digital & systems support
Acts as the primary point of coordination for materials data setup and planning logic
Ensures alignment between engineering outputs, procurement data, and construction requirements
Communicates risks related to incomplete or misaligned material data proactively
Enables field teams by ensuring materials are correctly represented in the system prior to execution
Key Accountability Areas
Material Planning & Data Preparation
Develop and validate material requirements based on engineering deliverables (e.g., MTOs, drawings, specifications)
Structure material data for system loading, including tagging, breakdown, and hierarchy (e.g., FIWP alignment, piece marks, tag-level detail)
Ensure material data is complete, accurate, and consistent prior to system entry
Define and maintain material identification structures to support tracking, traceability, and reporting
System Setup & Integrity (Site Sense)
Lead the setup of materials within the materials management system to support construction tracking and reporting
Ensure materials are properly configured to enable receiving, issuing, and reporting workflows
Validate that system structure aligns with construction execution logic (e.g., FIWP-level visibility, work package alignment)
Maintain data quality standards and governance across material records
Integration with Engineering & Procurement
Interface with engineering teams to ensure material take-offs are accurate, structured, and usable for downstream execution
Support procurement by aligning material data with purchase orders, vendor documentation, and delivery expectations
Identify and resolve gaps between engineering outputs, procurement data, and system requirements
Ensure subcontractor-supplied materials are incorporated into the materials system in advance of delivery
Construction Readiness (Forward-looking)
Analyze material availability against construction schedules and workface planning requirements
Identify upcoming material constraints, data gaps, or risks prior to impacting field execution
Support readiness reporting by ensuring materials are visible and aligned to construction priorities ahead of time
Coordinate with Material Controllers and Construction teams to ensure smooth handoff from planning to execution
Data Governance & Continuous Improvement
Establish and maintain standards for material data structure, naming conventions, and system setup
Identify recurring issues in engineering, procurement, or data setup processes and recommend improvements
Support the development of procedures, templates, and best practices for material planning and system configuration
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to materials management systems and processes
This role is:
Accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and structure of material data prior to field execution
Responsible for ensuring materials are properly set up in the system to enable receiving, tracking, and reporting
A key enabler of construction readiness through proactive planning and data alignment
Forward-looking, identifying risks and constraints before they impact site operations
A technical role bridging engineering, procurement, and field execution
This role is not:
A field-based material execution or coordination role
Responsible for physically receiving, handling, or issuing materials
Accountable for system transaction execution (receipts, issues, transfers)
Responsible for resolving field-level material discrepancies (OS&D/UOSD)
Responsible for procurement decisions or vendor management
