Junior / Intermediate Level Environmental Consultant
Location:
Whitby, ON. This role is based out of Whitby, ON.
PGL employees work a 37.5‑hour work week and have the option to work from home or office as needed.
Responsibilities
Soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapour sampling;
Drilling investigations (Phase II ESAs);
Environmental monitoring, including water quality sampling, construction supervision, and liaising with site personnel, clients, and regulatory agencies;
Site remediation;
Budgeting and reporting;
Reviewing policies and systems;
Contributing to PGL’s corporate initiatives.
Comfort working on active construction sites is necessary as you will supervise remediation and drilling contractors. Hands‑on field experience will progress toward project management, directing others in the field, and preparing reports. Report writing and client contact will become important components of the position. Ideally, candidates should have strong people skills, team‑oriented attitude, and a foundation in consulting skills.
Job Requirements
Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering (chemical, geological, geotechnical, environmental), Geology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, related engineering discipline or Toxicology.
2 – 5 years of consulting experience with exposure to contaminated site assessments.
Ability to register as a professional (in‑training) in the Province of ON is an asset, such as P.Eng, P.Geo, or equivalent.
Comfortable working on job sites (including but not limited to construction sites, gas stations, around traffic and heavy equipment).
Experience with soil and groundwater testing and hydrogeology is an asset but not a requirement.
Experience in contaminated site investigations including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation, risk assessments, and fieldwork appropriate to the level of experience.
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products; knowledge of EsDat is an asset but not a requirement.
Excellent internal and external client service skills.
Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
Strong mentoring and coaching abilities and team spirit attitude.
Valid Driver’s license required.
Ability to travel and work in potentially remote locations, generally in the province of ON.
Ability to work hours based on project requirements.
Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 25 lbs for short durations.
