About the role
The RSK Geosciences team are currently recruiting for Geotechnical Engineers/Engineering Geologists to join our well-established and experienced geotechnical consultancy team in our Hemel Hempstead office. Candidates should have at least two to three years of relevant experience in the planning and supervision of ground investigations.

Responsibilities- Undertaking Geotechnical desk studies, Geo-hazard & geospatial site appraisals
- Overseeing ground investigations and subcontractors
- Earthworks supervision
- Soil and rock logging to current geotechnical standards and laboratory scheduling
- Collating data and writing factual and interpretative geotechnical and geoenvironmental reports
- Prepare earthworks documentation in accordance with DMRB HD 22/08 "Managing Geotechnical Risk"
- Exposure to geotechnical analysis and design of slopes, earthworks, foundations, basements, retaining structures and ground movement assessments
- Exposure to geoenvironmental site appraisal
- Occasional travel to other offices and sites within the UK
- Opportunities to occasionally undertake assignments overseas for periods of up to 1-2 months, if desired
This particular role is an excellent opportunity to work with a wide range of public and private sector clients on some key and major projects offering the opportunity for you to gain broad consultancy experience at an early stage of your career. The role will involve a mix of site-based supervision of geotechnical investigations and/or earthworks supervision, geotechnical construction but will also include some office-based time for analysis and reporting elements of projects.
Office based time may be remote / home based with a hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office 2 working remotely (subject to project / site work requirements).
- A degree in engineering geology, geology, civil engineering or a related discipline
- A second degree in geotechnical engineering would be advantageous
- Aspiration to obtain Chartered status with a relevant institution (eg CGeol/CEng) and membership of the Geological Society of London or be working towards corporate membership of another appropriate professional institution (eg ICE)
- Proven post-graduate professional experience
- A good understanding of geology, site investigation works and ground engineering
- Good report writing skills
- Computer literate. Good level of using MS-Words and Excel
- Experience in CAD, ARC Gis / QGIS and geotechnical software packages is preferable
- Experience in GI specification and contract documentation is preferable
