Position: Technical Officer (Groundwater Resources) - 34785

Job Overview

We are looking for a hydrogeologist to join a small friendly team of experts focused on the management and protection of groundwater across Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine water resource permits
  • Work with licence holders to ensure licences are sustainable
  • Advise on the impacts of groundwater abstraction, including resource and pump test assessments
  • Advise on groundwater extremes (drought and flooding)
  • Advise on the impacts of major infrastructure projects
  • Support management of the groundwater level network
  • Provide technical information to customers
  • Help deliver Water Framework Directive measures and investigations
Qualifications and Experience
  • A geoscience‑related degree or equivalent; a relevant postgraduate qualification desirable
  • Good computer skills, including spreadsheets; mapping system use desirable, with training provided
  • Conceptualisation of hydrogeological processes within chalk catchments
  • Ability to produce and interpret data to develop evidence and solve technical issues
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to present convincing verbal and written arguments to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience working as part of a team and the ability to use initiative to work independently
  • A pragmatic, common‑sense approach to problem solving
  • Full UK driving licence
Additional Information

Incidents are central to our work; you will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond or provide business continuity support. Additional payment may apply and full training will be provided.

The role is part of the Groundwater, Hydrology and Contaminated Land team in the Solent and South Downs area. The base location is one of the area offices, with some home working, office visits and occasional site work.
