Overview

Frazer‑Nash is recruiting Human Factors Consultants (Consultant, Senior Consultant, Management Consultant and Principal Consultant) for roles across mid‑to‑senior levels in the nuclear sector. Salary ranges from £70,000 to £95,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Location:

Any Frazer‑Nash UK office (ideally Bristol, Manchester or Burton). The role supports a flexible hybrid working pattern, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical leader and subject‑matter specialist within the Group and wider business, specialising in the nuclear domain.
  • Provide human factors strategies for complex projects, from a technical and commercial perspective.
  • Develop, deliver and verify human factors work as part of multidisciplinary projects in the nuclear sector, in accordance with UK regulatory requirements for nuclear safety.
  • Manage business development activities with existing clients and secure new business.
  • Lead the delivery of complex, technical, multidisciplinary or high‑value projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, to the required quality and within budget.
  • Conduct technical verification reviews and approve deliverables, ensuring quality, technical accuracy and clear communication of outputs for clients.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff and support their career development.
  • Stay current on changes in regulations, guidance and standards to ensure compliance and best practice outcomes for clients.
Qualifications Personal
  • Relevant degree (e.g. BSc or MSc in Human Factors) or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Relevant professional membership (held or actively working toward Full/Chartered status).
  • Significant experience writing and editing high‑quality outputs and bids in a consultancy or advisory setting.
  • Commercial awareness and attention to detail to manage project scope, risks and costs.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships at senior levels.
  • Strong time‑management and prioritisation skills in a consultancy environment with shifting priorities.
Technical (Essential)
  • Significant experience in human‑factors integration activities/projects across safety‑critical industries (nuclear, oil & gas or offshore).
  • Deep knowledge of UK nuclear standards and regulations.
  • Understanding of risk assessment, safety assurance, safety case and safety‑management concepts within major hazard industries.
  • Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative human‑error and reliability assessments.
  • Experience in User Experience or Human‑Computer Interfaces.
  • Experience in the civil nuclear sector – ideally plant operation, new builds, defueling and fuel‑route support.
  • Experience in the defence sector.
  • Support to safety‑case development within the nuclear context.
Desirable
  • History of engagement with regulators (e.g. ONR, EA/NRW/SEPA, DESNZ, Defra and defence regulators).
  • Experience managing complex, multidisciplinary, high‑value, high‑risk or long‑duration projects.
  • Experience in business development and client relationship management.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior human‑factors staff.
  • Current knowledge of regulatory changes and standards relevant to nuclear safety.
