Position: Scientific Collaborator (m/f)
Location: Genf

Position

Payerne (and working from home) | 60-60%

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to ongoing international cooperation endeavors at Meteo Swiss in the area of meteorological measurements & data, with regular travels abroad
  • Design, propose and implement operational and sustainable solutions in the areas of meteorological network design, instrument maintenance & calibration, data management, and staff training, in collaboration with international partners
  • Write reports, concept notes, and other technical documentation (e.g. call-for-tenders) as warranted by the different projects
  • Support in the acquisition of new projects abroad
  • Present contributions at international conferences;
    Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications
  • Master in natural sciences or engineering; a PhD is a plus
  • Experience with meteorological measurement systems (incl. surface and upper-air observations, in particular for GBON variables);
    Additional experience with hydrological measurement techniques is a plus
  • Experience with the processing, storage and dissemination of meteorological data;
    Experience with WMO-relevant open-source tools (wis2box, ADL, climweb, surface CDMS, …) is a plus
  • Agile & solution-oriented mindset with an analytical & autonomous work methodology;
    Strong sense of responsibilities and an ability to work efficiently within a team of experts;
    Hands-on experience with databases, virtual machines/cloud computing and Python programming is a plus
  • Marked intercultural awareness and empathetic mindset, comfortable in working with a large number of international scientific, technical and administrative partners
  • Good command of two official languages and fluency in English
