Frazer‑Nash has over three decades of experience in the nuclear sector, supporting our clients to meet strict nuclear industry regulatory requirements. We work extensively across UK civil nuclear operations and support nuclear elements of UK Defence platforms, infrastructure and equipment. Frazer‑Nash has also built a long track record of supporting the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for over 15 years.

Key Qualifications Personal
  • Relevant degree or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Relevant professional membership. Holding or actively working towards Full / Chartered status.
  • Significant experience writing and editing high quality outputs in a consultancy or advisory setting.
  • Significant experience writing high quality bids and proposals in a consultancy or advisory setting.
  • Commercial awareness and attention to detail to manage project scope, risks, and costs.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships at senior levels.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritise tasks in a consultancy setting with frequent shifting priorities.
Technical
  • Experience of designing equipment in support of nuclear facilities and systems. To include the nuclear island, balance of plant, rotating machinery and mechanical power transmission and their support systems (cooling, lubrication), tools, jig and rig used in construction and manufacturing and nuclear handling (fuel route).
  • Experience designing and integrating primary and secondary systems (e.g., reactor coolant systems, steam generators, heat exchangers). Understanding of system interactions, interfaces, and overall plant layout. Ability to produce and review PFD’s and P&IDs, system schematics, 3D CAD models, layout drawings, detail manufacturing drawings.
  • Specification and design of pumps, valves, piping, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers. Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear sector. Experience technical due diligence of supplier designs and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing design changes within strict configuration control processes. Working across lifecycle phases: concept, FEED, detailed design, commissioning, and operations support. Use of PLM systems, document control, and change management processes.
  • Coordinating with civil, electrical, control & instrumentation, and safety teams. Managing technical interfaces between systems, suppliers, and stakeholders. Leading and participation in design reviews, technical queries (TQs), and site support activities.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear safety principles (defence‑in‑depth, ALARP, redundancy, diversity). Experience applying regulatory frameworks (e.g., ONR in the UK, IAEA standards). Contribution to safety cases, hazard analysis (HAZOP/HAZID), and experiences of writing Basis of Design and Design Substantiation documentation.
  • Instrumental in the technical deliver of nuclear design projects (e.g. technically complex; or multi‑disciplinary; or high value; or high risk; or long duration etc.) to ensure that they are delivered on time, in line with the agreed scope, to the desired quality standard and within budget.
  • Undertaking technical verification reviews and approval of deliverables, ensuring quality, technical accuracy and effective communication of outputs for our Clients.

Candidates will undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
