About the Role
To lead environmental sustainability delivery on complex projects or on several smaller projects, translating the Building New Futures strategy into practical actions. This role manages risk, influences stakeholders, and supports team development to drive measurable sustainability outcomes. The role will involve travel to multiple sites; willingness to travel is required.
What you'll be doing- Provide expert advice on environmental compliance, pollution control, waste, and ecology, ensuring alignment with ISO
14001 and the Business Management System (BMS). - Oversee project compliance performance, including inspections, audits, and reporting, and facilitate external audits by clients and certification bodies.
- Manage complex environmental risks and opportunities.
- Update project sustainability plans.
- Undertake planned and unplanned inspections.
- Deliver environmental guidance and training for operational and supply chain teams.
- Investigate environmental incidents.
- Liaise with clients, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Direct or support applications for consents, licences, and permits.
- Report against KPIs, Rail Carbon Tool, and Social Value Too.
- Validate and analyze environmental data.
- Collaborate with the wider CRSA ES team.
- Mentor HSE apprentices as necessary.
- Valid UK driving licence, as the role requires significant travel depending on site locations.
- PTS certification, to be obtained.
- Professional membership.
- Degree in an environmental or sustainability‑related field is preferred.
- Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) preferred.
- Practical application of ISO 14001, including environmental risk and opportunity assessment and environmental controls.
- Smart working, with up to 40% remote working where roles allow, and staggered start and finish times.
- 25 days paid annual leave (pro‑rata).
