Position: Senior Municipal Engineer )
Your Opportunity  Stantec is seeking a Senior Municipal Engineer to join our Water team. The role is based in one of the following office locations (hybrid):
Toronto, London, or Stoney Creek.
This role focuses on challenging storm and sanitary conveyance projects for clients within the GTA and Southwestern Ontario. You will work alongside a Project Manager as a key member of the project team and provide guidance to other staff in developing municipal conveyance designs on a broad variety of projects, from small diameter sewers to pumping stations and transmission mains in complex locations.

You will have opportunities to lead and support designs with the goal of advancing your career in municipal design as a technical resource, project manager, or team leader. Tasks may include developing engineering designs, technical reports, drafting and supporting proposals, and liaising with clients to move project designs forward. Field work may be required on occasion, such as during construction inspection to ensure contractor operations comply with contract drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities   Perform civil conveyance design for watermain, storm, and sanitary sewer projects from preliminary design to detailed design, tendering, and construction inspection, with consideration for environmental and permitting constraints.
Prepare engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
Conduct calculations, prepare proposals and technical reports, and assist the project manager or lead engineer.
Take responsibility for managing project deliverables and schedule with project technical leads and the project manager.
Coordinate with construction activities, providing guidance and clarification of the design during construction.
Capabilities and Credentials   Capable of developing municipal conveyance designs for water and wastewater infrastructure from conceptual level to detailed design and construction.
Ability to work in a flexible office environment, including in-office and remote work as required.
Strong ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings.
Understanding of construction methods such as open-cut and trenchless (microtunneling, jack and bore, etc.) for sewer and water infrastructure.
Understanding of watermain, storm, and sanitary sewer rehabilitation (e.g., relining) is considered an asset.
Understanding of conveyance system construction elements as they relate to design to select construction methods and define work area limits.
Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
Ability to complete tasks to meet project budget and schedule.
Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
Understanding of engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
Project management experience (budgeting, scheduling, and coordination between stakeholders) is considered an asset.
Effective communication of project issues with the contractor, project team, and clients.
Strong presentation, technical, and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; proficiency in engineering applications such as Civil3D and Micro Station is considered an asset.
Understanding of industry standards and client/regulatory requirements.
Understanding of GTA and/or Southwestern Ontario municipal sewer and watermain design criteria and specifications is considered an asset.

Education and Experience   Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental or Civil Engineering from an accredited university. P.Eng license, or ability to obtain licensure within one year.
Minimum of 10 years of municipal conveyance design experience, including related co-op or internship work experience.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
