Position: Junior / Intermediate Environmental Consultant
Location: Whitby

PGL Environmental Consultants is seeking a  Junior / Intermediate Level Environmental Consultant  to join our team. This role is based in  Whitby, ON . Employees work a 37.5‑hour week and have the option to work from home or at the office as needed.

Responsibilities

Soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapour sampling;

Drilling investigations (Phase II Environmental Site Assessments);

Environmental monitoring, including water quality sampling, construction supervision, and liaison with site personnel, clients, and regulatory agencies;

Site remediation;

Budgeting and reporting;

Reviewing policies and systems;

Contributing to PGL’s corporate initiatives.

Comfort working on active construction sites is necessary as you will be expected to supervise remediation and drilling contractors. Hands‑on field experience will progress toward project management, directing others in the field, and preparing reports. As your career develops, report writing and client contact will become an important component of the position. Ideally, candidates possess strong people skills, a team orientation, and a solid foundation of consulting skills.

Job Requirements

Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering (chemical, geological, geotechnical, environmental), Geology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, a related engineering discipline, or Toxicology.

2–5 years of consulting experience with exposure to contaminated site assessments.

Ability to register as a professional (in‑training) in the Province of Ontario (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo, or equivalent) is an asset.

Comfortable working on job sites, including construction sites, gas stations, and areas with traffic and heavy equipment.

Experience with soil and groundwater testing and hydrogeology is an asset but not required.

Experience in contaminated site investigations including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation, risk assessments, and field work appropriate to the level of experience.

Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products. Knowledge of EsDat is an asset but not required.

Excellent internal and external client service skills.

Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.

Strong mentoring, coaching abilities, and a team‑spirit attitude.

Valid driver’s license required.

Ability to travel and work in potentially remote locations, generally within the province of Ontario.

Ability to work flexible hours based on project requirements.

Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. for short durations.
