Development Inspector

Position Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Development Engineering & Inspections, Development Inspector will be responsible for providing general onsite construction coordination for plans of subdivision as well as inspection services as it relates to municipal infrastructure within plans of subdivision, private development and site alterations. Duties include but are not limited to:

Provide general day-to-day coordination and inspection of onsite matters with regards to plans of subdivision and private development projects, to ensure conformance with approved plans; provide security releases, attend meetings, investigate complaints.

Responsible for ensuring that all privately initiated public municipal infrastructure is inspected and constructed to City and Provincial standards.

Participate in the review and closing out of subdivision agreements including confirmation that conditions of the agreement have been satisfied with regards to onsite construction.

Plans examination, inspection and final approval of project and security.

Release recommendations of plans of subdivision, site plans and site alteration permits.

Review and ensure Sediment and Erosion Controls are installed correctly for plans of subdivision.

Participate in meetings with public and agency stakeholders of the City regarding concerns, policies, and design/operational requirements with respect to public infrastructure.

Track and report on the status of all inspection activities and maintain accurate records.

Assist with the development of construction guidelines in consultations with other technical staff to be used by the development community.

The Development Inspector will be well versed with all associated regulations, City of Brantford standards, municipal bylaws and must be a professional communicator interacting with the public, builders, contractors, consultant engineers, and city staff.

The Development Inspector will also assist with enforcing the Site Alteration Bylaw including issuing Stop Work Orders, orders to comply and charges for violation.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum two (2) year community college diploma as an Engineering Technician required. A three (3) year community college diploma as an Engineering Technologist or equivalent education, preferred.

Demonstrated experience in municipal construction/inspection of three (3) to five (5) years.

Comprehensive understanding and technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, construction best practices, and maintenance.

Proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Work Zone Safety and all other applicable legislation and specifications.

Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple and changing demands and priorities.

Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential.

Experience working with computer applications including Amanda, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, G.I.S. systems.

Possess a valid Class 'G' driver's license in good standing during the course of employment.

Conflict resolution skills are required.

Applicants may be required to undergo skills assessment testing.

As a condition of employment, proof of current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications will be required.
