Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Project Manager/Technical Lead, Conveyance to join our Water team. The role can be based in one of the following offices:
Toronto, Hamilton/Stoney Creek, Waterloo or London (hybrid).

The position involves leading and developing designs for technically challenging storm, sanitary and watermain conveyance projects for clients within Toronto, Hamilton/Stoney Creek, Waterloo and London. You will act as a technical lead alongside a Project Manager and supporting team, guiding municipal conveyance designs across a broad variety of projects from small diameter sewers and water mains to large box‑culverts with complex utilities and locations.

This role offers an opportunity to mentor supporting designers and developing professionals.

Typical duties include developing engineering designs, technical reports, drafting and supporting proposals, compiling and validating technical data, specification development, cost estimation and engineering calculations. Project‑management tasks such as liaising with clients, budgeting, scheduling and coordination activities may also be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform civil conveyance design for watermain, storm and sanitary sewer projects, from preliminary design to detailed design, tendering and construction inspection, considering environmental and permitting requirements.
  • Prepare and guide engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Prepare proposals and technical reports as technical lead of the project team.
  • Manage project deliverables and schedule in partnership with the project manager.
  • Undertake quality assurance and quality control of engineering drawings and reports.
  • Coordinate with construction activities, providing input and clarification of the design during construction.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong capability in developing municipal conveyance designs from conceptual to detailed design and construction.
  • Flexible office environment, including on‑site and remote work.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting 2D and 3D CAD drawings and geotechnical reports.
  • In-depth understanding of construction methods such as open‑cut and trenchless techniques for sewer and water infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of storm and sanitary sewer rehabilitation (e.g., relining) considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of conveyance system construction elements and selection of construction methods.
  • Ability to provide guidance to junior and intermediate designers, fostering skill development.
  • Effective collaboration and critical thinking within a project team.
  • Capability to meet project budget and schedule constraints.
  • Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and engineering judgment in problem solving.
  • Clear communication of engineering concepts.
  • Project‑management experience, including budgeting, scheduling and stakeholder coordination, considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
    AutoCAD and Micro Station proficiency considered an asset.
  • Understanding of industry standards, client and regulatory requirements, and City of Toronto Sewer and Watermain Design Criteria and Specifications considered an asset.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental or Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist registered in Ontario.
  • Minimum of 15 years of municipal conveyance design, including related co‑op or internship experience.
Typical Office Environment

Computer‑based work with extended sedentary periods. Field work may involve exposure to inclement weather.
